On May 16, 2023, two significant programs were organized at Thakurnagar Chikanpara R.P. School with the support of Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata and management by Gobardanga Seba Farmers’ Samity. For women, a Cervical Cancer Awareness Camp was held in collaboration with Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute, along with a self-defense program called Virangana.

The event was graced by the presence of the Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata’s President, Shri. Bibek Kundu, the elected President, Shri. Dinesh Ganguly, Vice President, Shri. Ashish Kumar Dutta, and other Rotarians. Members of the Gobardanga Seba Farmers’ Samity, including the Secretary, President, Treasurer, and volunteers from Seba Thakurnagar Branch, also attended.

The volunteers of the Thakurnagar Branch and Gobardanga Seba Farmers’ Samity Treasurer, Smt. Pratima Chakraborty, welcomed all Rotarians with flowers and Uttaria. The event commenced at eleven in the morning. In his opening speech, Rotarian Bibek Kundu shared insights about the Rotary Club of Aabahamaan Kolkata and their humanitarian efforts, highlighting the continuous support provided by the Gobardanga Seba Farmers’ Samity.

During the event, food items were distributed to several underprivileged individuals by Rotarians, alongside journalist and writer Shri. Panchu Gopal Hazra, with the support of Seba volunteers. The Panchayat Prodhan of Thakurnagar Ichapur-ii, Mrs. Sima Mondal, also graced the occasion and was warmly welcomed with flowers and a Uttaria by Seba Secretary Shri. Gobinda Lal Majumdar.

Simultaneously, while cervical cancer tests were being conducted, a self-defense training session for women was ongoing. The experienced trainer demonstrated how women could protect themselves from potential attacks using simple self-defense techniques. At the end of the training, each participant received a certificate and a medal.

The event concluded with a speech by Seba President Shri. Himadri Gomsta. A group photo was taken with all the self-defense training participants, volunteers, and officials, capturing the spirit of solidarity and empowerment that marked the day.
