KNOW ABOUT GSFS

BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY:

There is a beginning of the beginning. Two youths of the locality inspired by the lessons of Swami Vivekananda decided not to go for job but to devote their lives for the help of the poor people of the locality. That time they were guided by the seers of Ramakrishna Math that it is not their time to go for such life. Rather they may consider for economic upliftment of the poor people which is the way of serving God. These two young’s of those days are GOBINDA LAL MAJUMDER of village & P.O. Ghoshpur and HIMADRI GOMASTA of Village & Post Media of the district of North 24 pgs.

With their thirst in the mind they met Shri Tushar Kanti Ghosh, the ex-CRM of United Bank of India and the DDM, NABARD and appealed to them to utilize them in the programmes of the bank for social upliftment through banking activities. They realized that if these youths are given the opportunity, they will have their ways to serve the community of mankind.

At that time the Swaviman scheme of the Govt. of India has been launched aiming to bring the banking services to the Rural India and they started their activity with the opening of a Farmers’ Club at Dakshin Chatra Branch of United Bank of India. They became involved in the activities of the bank assisting the managers  in every aspect of day-to-day banking activities.

Later on the farmers club was registered as an NGO in the year 2005 as Gobardanga Seba Farmers' Samity and became the main outsourcing partner of the Bank.

The NGO is not only serving now as the Promoting Institution of  NABARD for formation of SHGs,/JLGs but also forming FPCs, engaged in the training of farmers, artisans, other entrepreneurs acting as a true catalyst of rural development.

However they did not forget their ulterior desire to help the distressed people at large and as such they introduced a Programme named ESSO HAAT DHARI through Which every  type of social welfare measures are  taken from helping in Medical care, Education to home for the old/helpless people.

GSFS with the active stewardship with Gobindalal Majumdar as Secretary and Himadri Gomasta as president has established a bold foot prints in this district.
