On the 27th of May, 2023, as with every month, the 42nd literary meeting was held on the last Saturday of the month. Writers, storytellers, poets, journalists, and other distinguished personalities gathered from various regions. On this day, Seba Farmers’ Sammity had the privilege of honoring Shri. Bibar Dutta, particularly for his contributions as a literary figure. Born in Faridpur district of present-day Bangladesh, Shri. Bibar Dutta’s life has been a journey through various struggles and protests. From a young age, he had a profound love for literature, with life’s sorrows and pains fueling his writing. His contributions to contemporary literature are unparalleled, and his artistic prowess as a storyteller captivates readers with his refined sensibilities and artistic consciousness.
The event began with garlanding the portraits of Rabindranath Tagore and the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. This was followed by an inaugural song performed by Shri. Samir Chatterjee, a volunteer from Seba Barasat branch. The day included performances by young artists, who recited poems and presented dance, as well as musical performances by adults.
One by one, everyone presented their original stories, poems, and other writings. Following this, Sunanda Mahanti, a student from Maslandapur Bhudev Smriti Girls’ School, was honored on the main stage. The president of Gobardanga Seba Farmers’ Sammity, Shri. Himadri Gomasta, felicitated this young student with flowers and a scarf, and the Seba Farmers’ Sammity’s treasurer, Smt. Pratima Chakraborty, presented her with a book, a pen, and a memento.Shri. Gomasta spoke a few words about Sunanda, highlighting how she managed to excel academically despite extreme poverty, becoming the top student in her school.
Subsequently, Shri. Bibar Dutta was honored on the main stage. President Shri. Himadri Gomasta welcomed him with a Uttaria and other distinguished tokens of honor, while Mrs. Pratima Chakraborty handed him a certificate of honor and a flower bouquet. We all felt deeply honored to be able to bestow such a unique honor on this great person at the 42nd literary meeting.
